Introduction

In 1971, Epidemiology Unit was established under the Health Services Division. However, in 1992, the restructuring of the Ministry of Health under the New Renumeration System, the Health Services Division was expanded and reorganised to become Public Health Department of which Disease Control Division was created. Currently, there are 7 major sections:-

  • Section of Communicable Diseases
  • Section of AIDS/STD
  • Sesction of Vector Borne Diseases Control
  • Section of  Communicable Diseases Surveillance
  • Section of Non Communicable Diseases
  • Section of  Occupational and Environmental Health and Tobacco Control
  • Public Health Laboratory

Objective

To provide adequate and effective health promotion, prevention, early diagnosis or detection and  prompt treatment of diseases of public health importance as well as the rehabilitation of those affected by these diseases.

To ensure that diseases are prevented and controlled through an integrated and collaborative efforts by the health and health related agencies in the private and public sectors at all levels viz., locally, nationally & globally as well as by individuals, families and  the community.
