Medical Radiation Surveillance Division

Intorduction

The Medical Radiation Surveillance Division is the regulatory body responsible for enforcing the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 (Act 304) regarding the use of ionizing radiation for medical purposes. The division carries out the following core activities to ensure compliance with the Act:

i. Licensing & Registration
ii. Enforcement & Prosecution
iii. Technical Advisory Services, Codes, and Standards
iv. Training Development & Inter-Agency Cooperation

The primary objective of these activities is to ensure that the use of ionizing radiation on patients is safe, effective, and optimized. Furthermore, these regulatory measures are implemented to safeguard the safety of both healthcare workers and the general public.

  • To be a leader in medical radiation regulation and medical physics services that are safe, effective, high-quality, and sustainable.
Mission
  • To strengthen medical radiation control by fostering a culture of self-regulatory compliance and providing expert technical services in medical physics, driven by the transformation of knowledge, technology, innovation, and quality.
Objectives
  1. To enforce the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 (Act 304) and its related subsidiary regulations for medical purposes.
  2. To provide technical advisory services on radiation safety and medical physics to medical institutions and relevant agencies.
  3. To strengthen inter-agency collaboration at both national and international levels.

Client Charter

To manage the approval of licenses within the specified timeframes, provided that all submitted documents are complete and compliant, as follows:

  • New License Applications: 90% of applications processed within seven (7) working days.
  • License Renewal Applications: 90% of applications processed within seven (7) working days.
